  1. It was a big part.  British invasion led to a change in the surfer sound of the early 60's, to the onset of the drug music in the late 60's.  The Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, Big Brother and the Holding Company, the Jimi Hendrix experience, Buffalo Springfield, The Doors, The Byrds, the Hollies, Country Joe and the Fish, The Yardbirds, which led into Lead Zeppelin.  They helped us express what we were feeling, or at least reflect it.

  2. It was as much POLITICAL as it was for ENTERTAINMENT

  3. Used to hold hands with theBeatles, and **** to the 'Stones.

  4. It was massive. Rock 'n roll almost killed jazz, partly because jazz didn't fit well with the inane pop songs of the early '60's such as "My Boy Lollipop." With the arrival of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell, music became much more political and a form of protest against a blind and greedy government. The Beatles were so good they inspired hundreds of imitators, and they there was the Monterey Pop Festival of 1967 (watch this, it's on video). Jimi Hendrix and Jefferson Airplane introduced acid music to many Ameircans, which cause a whole lot of people to start dropping acid and living in communes. Buyers of records wanted the lyrics printed in the album; listeners analyzed the album as an art form, and for its politics.

It was easily the most colorful decade in American history.

Oh, and watch the movies "The Doors" by Oliver Stone and "Help" by the Beatles.
