I like Anna Lesko, Radu Sirbu ("Doi Straini" is a great song and has a great music video.  If you like his music, also listen to some old O-Zone sings), Pavel Stratan, Cristina Rus, and 3rei Sud Est for Romanian pop music.  

Carmen Serban, Minodora, Dacian de la Oradea ("Numai tu" is a great song), Geo de la Timisoara (Ce-ai facut cu mintea mea" is a classic and reminds me of dancing at weddings back in RO), and Nicolae Guta are some of the best "manelisti."

In terms of older and folcloric music, I like Maria Tanase, Irina Loghin (esp. her song "Mai intoarce Doamne roata" is wonderful) and Dan Spataru (His song "Tzarancutza, Tzarancutza" is so sweet!).  

Check on youtube for most of the videos and decide who you like from there. :)
