Root canal & sensitivity

Question

I thought that a root canal = dead nerve = no more feeling in that area ...I had a root canal and a crown 2 weeks ago but I still feel it's sensitive when chewing. is this normal ? what can I do for it to go away and how long does it take to get back to normal ?

You could have an infection which will be treated with antibiotics,I suggest you contact the Dentist ASAP.

Hello...You could be dealing with one or both do two issues...First, if the root canal did not completely eliminate the abscess infection, you may still have some infection occurring, if that is the case you need to be on Antibiotics. Second, you say a Crown was put in place...if the Crown is slightly out of chewing balance, meaning that when you bite your teeth together the Crown hits before the other teeth do, the crown is being pounded by a premature occlusion contact...That premature contact can create a great deal of pain regardless of the fact that the tooth has had a root canal...If left unresolved the bone around the tooth will begin to dissolve away from the tooth and you will lose it....See your DDS right away and see if the crown is out of chewing balance and if necessary he will re-Xray to see if infection is still present at the root of the tooth.
