Roto tiller stopped working

Question

i bought a new briggs and stratton roto tiller. the third time i went to use it there was an oil spot under it. could i have put too much oil in it when i first used it? and what does happen to the machine if there is too much oil in it. it is a 158 cc front tine tiller 33665.thank you
