What would 11.199 be if you rounded it to the nearest hundredth.

Would it be 11.2 or 11.19? Please explain I for some reason do not understand. Thanks.

  1. These things are picky, because when it is specified as "round to the nearest hundredth", the final answer must have 2 decimal places.

So, in your case, the third number after the decimal is "9", which is big enough to round the second number after the decimal up. Think of the "199" part as literally one hundred and ninety-nine, so it'll round up to "200" (two hundred).  Hence, it is:

11.2 (But don't forget the TWO places after the decimal)

    So it is then 11.20.

    Viola, mon amis.  :)

  2. It would be 11.2.

This is because when you round up, you increase the digit of where you are rounding to (in this case, the hundredths place 9) by one. However, in this case, if you increase the hundredths place by 1, then it makes it 10 hundredths. 10 hundredths is equivalent to one tenth, so then you add on that digit to the tenths place to make it 11.2.

  3. its 11.2 because you carry the 1
