ok i have a ADSL2 modem and a linksys router here. I'm sure both are in good working condition. to confirm and add on, all indicating lights are on and not blinking when connected up together.

ok now my problem is that i cant seem to connect to the internet. wireless connection network icon in my toolbar shows me that it is connected with excellent signal.

ok and now that i give up on the wireless router and connect the cable straight between my modem and laptop, my internet connection is fine.

what is the problem..?

i had used this same router perviously with another ISP and the installation was smooth and easy. is having a different ISP now the reason?

  1. go on control pannal n check in internet connection. u can find there

  2. With DSL (ADSL is the same) you cant just connect a router to the DSL modem and it will work, like it does with cable.

1st you have to connect a computer directly to the dsl modem.  log into the modem and go to the modem setup, and i forgot if you have to change it from router bridge to bridge, or from bridge to router bridge, either way just call your isp and they will walk you through it step by step.

2nd after you change the modem settings, then just connect the router and follow the manufactures directions.

The reason on your computer it says the signal strength is excellent is because you are connect to you router and the router is working correctly, its just your modem isnt sending any internet signal to your router

  3. DSL providers can vary a bit on how you connect to them. Some use PPPoE with a username and password and others just use DHCP. (There are some other variations, too.)

You may just need to login to the configuration pages for your router using it's built-in web site. (This varies by router, but generally it's http://192.168.0.1, http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.2.1.) When you connected with you laptop, did you have to provide any login info? If so, you'll need to enter that in the WAN/Internet setup section of your router.

You might also just consider resetting the router back to factory settings. Generally, there is a reset button somewhere on the router. You would hold that in for 10 seconds or so (or hold it in while powering up) to force a reset. You would need to set up your wireless security again (i.e., the SSID name, security type, and key), but just resetting the router may clear up the issue.
