Question:

Rowdy kids at the pool?

We went to a public pool yesterday. There were 2 brothers, about six, splashing up a storm. Well it was ok until they splashed water directly into faces. My daughter (3) and another kid got chlorinated water in their eyes and started crying. I looked at the mother of the boys and she just sat there. I told the boys "Please don't splash her in the face" and the mom told me to mind my own business. What would you have done in this situation? It was time for us to go anyway, so we just left but I was pretty upset by it.

  1. I would of  done the same thing and if the parent gave me that kind of reaction then i would have let the person in charge of the public pool know what happened.

  2. I have told kids that it is rude (to splash, yell, take away my daughter's toys when she is playing with them or whatever) at the pool but I have never gotten in trouble by their parents, if anything the parent just ignores the situation or apologizes and disciplines the child(ren)..  I thank them for that and then keep playing...  I wouldn't take it personal..  Some parents are just lazy and rude..  explains the kids behavior, eh? :)  Have fun and stay away from the crazies! Don't let them ruin your summer!

  3. In cases like these where the mother is "ignorant" and doesn't watch her children, instead of getting into it with her, I would have just gotten the attention of the lifeguard, who would have removed them from the pool.

It's unfortunate that we have to deal with parents and children who are oblivious to others around them.

  4. I vvould have been mad! I vvould have told the mom, I dont mind if they splash around in the pool but they dont need to purposely splash other kids in the face, so either control your kid or dont get mad at me if I tell them to stop splashing mine! some people just aren't very considerate of others and let there children do vvhatever.

  5. i would have said," I WAS minding my own business untill your unsupervised kids starting  spashing my daughter on purpose."

  6. That happens to us all the time. It's really annoying. You did the right thing, except maybe you should've splashed the mom so she could see how it feels. Some people are just so rude....

  7. I cant believe she said that to you! No wonder the world is full of rude people. THEY BREED

  8. Was there a lifeguard? I would have turned them in. I would have been so tempted to splash them back though.

It's so frustrating when parents are so.... I can't even put it into words just thinking about it.

  9. You were minding your own business because it had to do with your daughter.  That mom is going to have a handful when those boys get older, she's teaching them that it's okay not to be courteous and to do whatever they want.  I would have liked to dump a bucket of water over her head and then some, but you did the right thing by just leaving since it was time to go anyway.  Next time, you could either notify a lifeguard or just move to another area of the pool.  Most public pools have wading pools for toddlers.
