g-man beat roy jones in the amatuers and unfortunatly jones was the one that got the chance to go too the olympics..and thats the main reason why jones was more marketable..when they went pro roy jones avoided g-man like the plague..jones also avoided nigel benn and chris eubanks..basically floyd mayweather jr is following in jones footsteps by avoiding the risky fights and only geys in the ring with opponents he knows he could beat...i would like to know everybody's opinion on who you think wouldve won between g-man vs jones jr both in there prime...my opinion is g-man woudve won by ko! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRfR3iy20wA

  1. G-man = Mike Vick = dog torturer!

  2. it is very sad what happened to gerald mcclennan, but i think he would have lost to roy jones in his prime, in jones's prime he was unstoppable, mclennan was a beast but he was proved to be stoppable....its a real shame

  3. I find it very difficult to write about Gerald, he was most likely the hardest hitting 154 champion in the history of boxing, and a gifted boxer as well as a feared slugger.  I honestly believe this is the one fight Roy Jones wouldn't have dominated, Gerald was almost as quick as Roy, and hit harder, one wonders what would have happened if Gerald would have landed on that Jones chin that Tarver exposed years later.

Roy Jones Jr. would have destroyed Nigel Benn, just like McClellan was doing before the clash of heads that ended Gerald's career.   Chris Eubanks wouldn't have lasted six rounds with Roy Jones Jr. back then either, and to claim Roy avoided the two English champions is about as true as Roy avoiding Darius Michaelczewski.  The three Europeans weren't in a big hurry to jump into the ring with Jones either, and if they wanted a Jones fight, they didn't put a lot of effort into trying to get one.  I think Jones would have had a lot more trouble with Darius than the two Brits, but I think Jones would have beaten all three.

I am not so sure Jones would have beat Gerald McClellan.

I honestly believe the McClellan/Benn tragedy was the single worst event in Detroit area boxing history, I lack the vocabulary to fully express the tragic event, and I cannot give an accurate unbiased opinion on this one.  I know this much, Gerald McClellan would have been far and away the toughest fight of Roy Jones Jr.'s career.

  4. Chris Eubank, Steve Collins, and Nigel Benn all got offered more money to fight Roy than any of their previous fights, but they all turned it down because they knew what would have happened to them.  It makes no difference that McClellan beat Jones in the amateurs.  Kelson Pinto, and Muhamad Abdulaev beat Miguel Cotto in the amateurs, and look what happened to them when they fought him in the pro ranks.  Henry Tillman beat Mike Tyson in the amateurs and Tyson steamrolled him when they fought in the pros.  The same thing that happened to all of Roy's other opponents would have happened to McClellan- Roy would have dominated him.  Roy is the best pound for pound fighter of his era, Gerald McClellan was a good, heavy handed fighter that will never be called great, and he would have gotten eaten alive by Jones in his prime.  "You musta forgot..."
