Question:

Royal Crowns, Jewels and Portraits.?

I'm looking for websites with a detailed picture archive of royalty.

I really need sites with pictures of crowns and elaborate jewelry. I'm also looking for sites that have extensive galleries of official royal portraits, the kind a court would have commissioned. No modern art impressions please.

If you have a site with photos of royals in regal dress, I would love that too! But please, no shots of like Diana walking to her car or that kinda stuff.

I don't particularly care which court or country, if there is a website that has a mass from all over, that'd be the ideal, but if you know a site that is just dedicated to say... the French or Russian court, please submit it!

I already have the wikipedia categories, as well as all the official sites of the current courts, but I'm looking for more classic, older designs.

Thank you!

  1. http://www.britannia.com/history/h6f.htm... is probably one of the most definitive sites for British royalty. It's mostly biographies, but there are a good deal of portraits, pics of statues and such.

http://www.royal.gov.uk/output/Page1.asp may have some use, more on the modern monarchy in Great Britain

When it comes to jewelry/ornament pics, http://www.englishmonarchs.co.uk/crown_j... is a good site. It has the crown jewels, crowns and other regalia. Nice pictures of the monarchs and coins on other parts of the site as well

This is an interesting, recent article about the pearls/necklace of Marie Antoinette: http://www.nysun.com/article/63606

http://www.heraldica.org/topics/france/ is a site with portraits and heraldry items connected with the French monarchy. It's...OK. It might be useful.

http://www.languedoc-france.info/0614121... This has some nice pictures, but strikes me as  a bit disorganized

http://www.alexanderpalace.org/palace/ma... A great site, with lovely pictures galore, in the Russian tzars, particularly the Romanovs.

What I've been doing is just looking up "Russian Royalty" or "royal symbols." Most major countries have their own web sites. Another great source? Travel sites! Those, especially, tend to include lots of pictures of the places they are advertising.
