Ok, its been forever since I "learned" how to read. And now I'm trying to help our 5 yr old read, and its a pain.
How do I explain when Y sounds like E.
Or when Vowels sound like the Letter not the sounds (ex. M-i-ke, D-a-y etc)
This is been the hard part for me to explain because she will sound out words how they would sound, but then she can't figure out the word. And when I tell her how it sounds she asks why, and my answer ends up being…uhhh just because.
Like D-a-y....She sounds it out more like Du-aaaa-Yuuu (hope that makes sense) Instead of Du-A-E
We use the website starfall.com, but it doesn't tell you how to know the difference...besides just memorizing words.
Anyways if someone could list out all the rules for me so I can explain it that would help. I’m not so much looking for a game, but for someone to teach me how to read haha.
Thanks!
