Question:

Runners question.....?

I just started running last week, I am starting out real easy. The first week I did one minute runs with 2 minute walks in between. This week (yesterday) I moved up to 2 minutes run and 2 minutes walk.

The next day after I run, I can barely get out of bed. I am not really sore, just whipped, exhausted.

Will this eventually go away?

Thanks!

  1. Yes. As you get fitter, you will recover faster.

As you get fitter you will realise you dont need to have the walks in between aswell (unless you are sprinting!).

P.S Good for you, keep it up!

  2. yes it will go away but what you really need is a cool down , this will flush out the lactic acid that builds up in your muscles and overnight lies their and causes cramps the next day, do a slowing jog to start, then do some gently stretches makin sure u especially cover the muscles that hurt the next day. Make sure your hydrated as the fluid will help your body also by helping it get rid of the toxins.

  3. Yes it will go away.

You probably forgot to stretch out after you did your run-walk routine.

Since your muscles were not use to the running the probably tightened up big time.

Remember that your have the most flexibility (range of motion) while they are still warm from your run. And that is the best time to stretch out. It can be very boring I'll admit...have a friend join yo or listen to your ipod tunes.

Most people do not stretched before and after as they should . This is because they see it as a waste of time. But in reality it helps with recovering from workouts and to get your muscles ready for the next workout, not to mention preventing injury.

Nutrition is also an important part of recovery. Get 20 grams of protein and 8oz of water into your body after your runs.

  4. Yep - the more you do your workouts the easier they will become. Once your body gets used to them you will no longer be sore (that means its time to kick it up another notch for results!)

Until then, expect soreness to peak on the 2nd day after a workout and then fade.

  5. it will go away, you just gotta keep running. the more you run, the more your body gets used to it. also, make sure you eat enough protein after running, to replenish your muscles. also eat some carbs to give you energy. i suggest a protein bar. this will help with your fatigue

  6. increased activity means you need to increase food and especially water yes dont give up you might feel lousy for a couple weeks but dont stop, you will make it to super fitness, remember water, water, water

  7. It will go away, but remember, exercise takes more out of you than you know, makes sure you are getting enough sleep
