i found this beginners guide to running a 5k

http://www.runnersworld.com/images/cma/beginner5k_table.jpg

if that doesnt work try this one:

http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-380-381--11942-0,00.html and click 'see the plan here'

ok so bsically it says beginners plan, but does it mean a complete beginnner?? like i have trouble running a mile and my time was 9minutes! so obviously i'm a complete beginner to running and i was wondering if this plan was for beginners who could run, but wanted some practice or something.....

b/c this plan gives days for walking and resting and i thought maybe it should be harder on beginners since they are really unfit and need practice

basically, can u look at the plan and tell me wether its for COMPLETE BEGINNERS or kinda fit beginners

thanks :)

coz i want to start cross country to get fit and they run 5k

i'm 14yrs old btw

  1. that is for someone like you who just started running and is not in shape yet.

  2. this is for complete beginners that are either fit or unfit. this will work for you, use this for the the 4-5 weeks indicated and then advance to another level. this will get you in shape so you can actually finish the race without dying. the more competitive runners run more miles. you should be fine with this plan. the key to running is running a little and working your way up. little times will you jump directly into an advanced stage.

TIP: most hs have summer programs for the upcoming xc seasons. try contacting the coach and asking if it's available. everyones welcomed and it helps to run with others. most important they will design your plan depending on your level. xc is really fun if you know and get along with the people in the team.
