  1. I'd say yes. But you do have to be careful. You should always drink water before running. The energy drinks are good for in between and afterwards. Water keeps you the most hydrated though. I recommed POWERADE.

  2. For the longer distances you need to get some form of energy (longer distances - anything over 10km really) and energy drinks and bars are really for that;.

I would class 800m as a short distance run really.

If you look after your body generally, for example you eat and drink well, then sports drinks dont do a lot. If you want a drink before the race then have one but you should have all the ready energy your body needs you 4 minutes of exercise floating around your body allready.

Perhaps for a quick boost you could consider a sugary sweet or 2 perhaps 10 mins before the race and a mouthfull of sports drink

  3. i would stick to gatorade. Stay away from the energy drinks before a race that are like soda and are fizzy with caffine and stuff.

  4. If I were you I wouldn't use energy drinks they can actualy be bad for you. There was a kid who drank 12 and died from it. I know you think you won't drink that much but it has different affects on everyone and it just how dangerous it can be. Stick to water.

  5. Alls the energy drinks do is race your heart. So at first you may feel like you are full of energy before the workout, but during it you will have less stamina because your heart will already be going fast. And by the way, GATORADE is better than powerade. It contains more electrolytes which control the electricity through the nerves in your body. so GATORADE is way better.

  6. It depends why you run, how far and how often.  If you are running to burn fat then you don't want extra sugar.  It helps on a long run if you are not just carb burning.

  7. Much for publicity than for real. I ran more than 35 marathons, with a Personnel Record of 2h 48', and I never drank energy drinks, but water. The best energy for running long distances come from complex carbohydrate, as from fruits, hole grains, whole wheat flour, raisins, because they're burned slowly than simple carbohydrates, as sugar, that is burned very quickly. The simple ones and it's fast burn give us a burst and then make us tired and physically depressed.

That's why the first class energy bars don't have sugar, but fructose. If you eat properly, complex carbohydrate  and avoid sugar, certainly you will run faster and longer.

    Thank you.

  8. Yea they definatly help with running because of the sugar rush you get, the more glucose in the better as that is what our bodies turn sugar into for enegy if it already has glucose our bodies dont need to do anything with it which means INSTANT ENERGY

sorry if the explanation is c**p lol

  9. No. They aren't for when you are running, they are for when you have finished. You certainly don't wont anything fizzy when you are exercising.  Taking caffeine when you are exercising when put extra pressure on your heart, which isn't sensible. If you need something to keep going I would recommend water and a glucose tablet.

Energy drinks contain sugars, salt and caffeine. The sugars will replace some of the sugar you burnt up running, the salt will replace lost salt (sweating) and the caffeine will keep you alert instead of becoming sleepy.

Iso-tonic drinks are supposedly balanced to fairly precisely replace what you lose when you exercise.

I don't recommend energy drinks because fruit or a sandwich would be healthier for you.  Caffeine should also be avoided in the evening as it disturbs sleep.

  10. Yepp the sugar gives you a rush and..
