Has Lawler regressed or has Smith progressed? The "Real" Robbie Lawler should have been able to handle Smith with ease. Is it possible that Smith got so much better post TUF?

  1. neither are as good as EliteXC hyped them up to be...but Smith did appear to be improved

  2. I think they just matched up well.  Smith seemed on his game, was moving, and was picking his shots well.  Too bad it was stopped.

  3. Lawler looked better and I think he'd have won if it continued.  Smith is actually good which made for a good match up. It was starting to look compeditive and then the best fight of the night was stopped.

  4. Smith is definitely becoming a more rounded fighter, and you can tell he's been training hard.  He was at his best.  A year or 2 can mak a huge difference when you have the ability to train full-time.  It show ed with Smith.

Lawler didn't look as sharp or as aggressive as he used to.   Then again, he may have been respecting Smith's striking too much.  Just like a lot of guys though,  Lawler may be taking a more seasoned approach.  Look at Chris Leben or even Wanderlei Silva - maulers who are now slowing the pace down some.   I think it's a more intelligent approach to picking one's opponent apart.

  5. that was the best scott smith i've seen in a while, they are just really tough
