Manchester United’s legendry winger Ryan Giggs believes that the 2nd goal against Sunderland was the most important in the win Sunday night.
Manchester United extended their lead at top of the table with a convincing 2-0 win against Sunderland at Old Trafford on Boxing Day. Sunderland has been a team that held United at the Stadium of light in a goalless draw, which Ferguson believes was one
of the toughest outings for his team. Sunderland later went on to beat defending champions, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, at Stamford Bridge and that too was not a scrappy win but a convincing 3-0 rout.
It was the Bulgarian, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dimitar-Berbatov-c11254, that got the ball rolling on Sunday. The start was phenomenal by United, but Berbatov hit the side post and soon after, Anderson hit the cross bar, and that may have triggered some nerves in the United camp.
Berbatov finally secured the 3 points for the Red Devils with his 2nd goal of the match, and which was also 13th for the season. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ryan-Giggs-c31985 was one of the most important players in the match playing in centre of midfield, and said that the 2nd
goal was integral for Manchester United.
Giggs said: "You're always a bit nervy when you're up against a very good Sunderland team and it's only 1-0, but once we got that second goal it was comfortable,"
"We played really well in the first half an hour and created a lot of chances, just as we did against Blackburn."
While referring to the match against Blackburn where United scored 7 goals, Giggs said that it was a pretty similar start. But the big difference was that United managed to put most of the chances away in that game, whereas on Sunday it was a matter of a
couple of inches here and there that prevented them from getting more goals. The left winger said that even though they had got just one goal in the first half, he was sure that they would be able to get at least 2 or 3 more in the 2nd. He added
that the first half score line of 1-0 was probably not justified considering the constant pressure Man United had imposed.
Giggs said that the 2nd half did give his team numerous chances but once again the domination was not converted into goals, and it did worry him to some degree. He admitted that in the early part of the season United had let in some late goals,
which did cost them valuable points. The former Welsh international went on to say that it was not until the 2nd goal that he was relieved and when he looked over his shoulder he could also see a relieved manager.
Giggs said that there is a busy and hectic season ahead and his team would be playing 4 more matches in next 10 days. He added that the manager had made it clear that the team could not afford any injuries and that is another reason the team held back after
the 2nd goal.
Giggs, who is part of the golden generation of Manchester United, said that Berbatov has been a revelation this season. He believes that ever since Berba came to United, there was no doubt about his ability, but he is a player that thrives on rhythm. He
added that considering the form he is in, there is no doubt in his mind that he would be able to win the golden boot this year.
