Will 8 Ga (1/8th inch) 3003 aluminum work for a 24x34 curved heater shield for heavy weapons combat? I wont mind if it bends a little over time, I just dont want to be out there hiding behind a piece of aluminum foil.

I do plan on covering it with canvas and painting my heraldry on it.

  1. Depending on the intensity of combat you want to be involved in, Standard thickness are of  curved heater shields ( 24X36)  with a 4-inch curve that is made T6 Aluminum has a  .090.

If you find thicker ones , it could long lasting and offers better protection on the long run.

  2. by heavy weapons combat do you mean wasters or blunts (steel).

aluminum is not bad as a SHIELD material for practice. its not perfect but you don't want to get something quality that is expensive only to have it get damaged.

your shild should be fine, enjoy and also just hammer out any dents as best you can to keep it from breaking apart longer.

if its a practice shield why the h**l are you painting heraldry on it?

if this is for the SCA then I wouldn't worry about it, I would hardly call anything the SCA does "heavy weapons combat". no offense.

    well maybe a little.
