SLR camera for my husband?

Id like to get a SLR camera for my husband. Hes really into photography and wants to go deeper than the simple point and shoot digital camera. Hes not experienced enough to get into film and all that so i think SLR is the best bet. I think hes interested in entering photography contests but nothing major to where he would want anything too complicated. Ive looked at Nikon a little but idk enough to really even have an idea of what would be good. He likes scenary pics like the beach and wildlife. If you need more details just ask. But do you have any recommendations for an amatuer SLR camera?

Decide on how much you can spend, then take your husband to a good camera store and let him try them out.   He needs to handle them and see which feels best to him.  What we like might not be right for him.

if you can afford something between 400-650$, you should get this camera: the nikon d40 digital SLR, it costs 450$, and it comes with a lens, and it's one of the most amateur SLR's on the market today:

i have this camera, and i've used it with great success, it's a beautiful camera, and you can take fabulous pictures.

or you could get the nikon d60, which is a little bit more expensive
