Safety Question?

I noticed that on rideaccidents.com and on wikipedia that Six Flags Great America (Chicago) is the unsafest out of the Six Flags parks. I've been there once a long time ago, and some friends want to go this weekend. I love roller coasters, but if safety is a concern, I'm kind of scared. Anyone know any information on the Six Flags Great America safety record?

Don't worry all reputable theme parks are very safe, and any six flags park is very reputable. There is a very,very,very small chance of you getting hurt, there is more of a chance on the way in the car (of getting hurt)

Most/some of the accidents on rideacidents are of the fault of the guest, through their impatiance or ignorance very few are mechanical faults.

If you read the reports carefully, you will notice that almost all coaster "incidents" are due to people doing stupid stuff ( like the kid last week who jumped fences and got his head cut off) or ride operaters doing stupid stuff ( like crossing the tracks when a trains coming) .

Very, very few are due to ride malfunction. Just stay in your restraints and obey the rules all will be fine. All rides have redundant safety systems. They know theres a potential issue long before it becomes an actual problem and shut the rides down.

  They would rather lose the business then  to have someone get injured or killed and have all that negitive publicity and lawsuits to settle

You are much more likely to get in an auto accident on the way to the park. You are even more likely to be struck by lightening playing golf then getting hurt in a park! Parks have daily inspections for all their rides and have one of the lowest injury and death rates of almost any activity. Roller coasters and rides are engineered to look and feel scary to the rider but at the same time be completely safe.

Maintaince workers walk the entire length of the track of every coaster in the morning to check that all bolts are tight and everything is in alignment. Trains and cars are checked and greased up as well. In the offseason each ride is disassembled and completely checked over for worn parts or cracked welds, then repaired or replaced as neccessary.

How often do you tear your entire car apart to check for things that may go wrong in the near future? ;)
