Sails on ships.?

Does anyone know why present day ships do not use auxillary sails to add to engine power to save energy?

great idea dude, we could have kite ships..

another one is chuck the anchor on to the moon and it can pull the ships around the earth

Oil is still too cheap to make it economical enough for companies to change their mindsets.   I've seen adds for large, kitelike sails designed for ships that will pay for themselves in 5 years.    Most companies look ahead to the next earnings report, not 5 years ahead.
