Sakic worth 6 million?

6 million is fair.  Joe is still one of the better players in the NHL.  He is also one of the most consistent as well.

Sakic is only worth $6 Million because without him The Avs might have trouble getting butt in the seats.

I got killed in the past for saying Sakic might want to hang them up after a rather pitiful showing vs. the Wings. Then I got killed for saying that he might consider a partial season. (the big argument is he would take someone’s spot who played hard all year)

However, I used to think that but now I disagree because when you think about it the NHL should be a 24 team league but since I’m in a generous mood I’ll say 26. So minus 4 teams you get rid of 4 lines of 4th line players. Then subtract 12 lines of 4th Line players to make room for the 4 lines of 1st,2nd and 3rd line talent.

In the End pretty much half the 4th liners in the league have no business playing in the NHL anyways.

Back to Sakic, I’ am glad he is back for one more go, hopefully he gets the “Yzerman” treatment from the press for playing his whole career for one franchise and not only consistently being a top center but one of the classiest acts in the NHL, time for the U.S. Media to buck up and give Burnaby Joe some extended pub for  a stellar career.

Yes. He is easily worth 6 mil cause some guys like brad richards is getting paid like 7.8 mil, while Sakic is obviously the better player. And I'm not even an Avs fan.

And unfortunately, it is true that Sakic is getting older, and I think he'll run out of gas in 5 to 6 years at the most. Thats why since this contract is sorta short term, its a very smart signing by both the franchise and the player; if Sakic decides to retire in a year or so.

Injuries are not really that big of a concern because hes not like forsberg who has pretzel bones. Sakic has never had an injury like the one last year and i dont think he'll get another one.

Lastly, I think that he was signed for about 7 mil last year, and he knows he got a little older, so he showed class in accepting a lower payment. 7 to 6 million is actually just a change from average joes to becoming a millionaire; you know. Although it doesnt seem like much in the sports business.

True but Think about what he has done for this team? He's been the face of the team for the past 2 decades. Hes got over 1600 points hes won 2 stanley cups helped Ray Bourque win His first. Hes won an Olympic gold Medal and stuff Hes still worth 6 Million

Oh, yeah. His off-ice leadership is worth that much alone. Everything else is a bonus.
