Sales tax?

Perhaps you are ordering online, and you're ordering from New York, and the merchandise are shipped to California. Do you need to include sales tax in your payment, or just include merchandise total and shipping charges?

New York's new laws require ALL online merchants to collect NYS sales tax on orders shipped to NY, starting June 1, 2008.

Even if they don't, you owe use tax on the purchase, payable with your NYS income tax return.
