  1. actually salsa is a type of ballroom dance.

there are different types of ballroom dances.

for ex...american rhythm, international latin, international standard.

    american rhythm is fun!

there is the cha-cha, rumba, bolero, swing, and mambo.

    international latin is pretty cool..

there is cha-cha, rumba, jive, samba, and paso doble.

    international standard is very elegant.

there is foxtrot, waltz, vienesse waltz, tango, quick-step

i would recommend american rhythm because i think it's easier.

i've been dancing it for almost two years.

    so yeah.

    salsa is awesome too.

so whatever you choose you will have a fun time!

    BALLROOM DANCING is AMAZING!

  2. There is formal dancing and there is social dancing - just like there is formal dining and social dining.  This website explains it simply:

Just find a class in your area and try it out.  I suggest starting with regular Salsa lessons.  Then, if you enjoy dance so much that you want to learn a number of formal dances, try American Ballroom.  IMHO, if you're just starting to learn to dance, Ballroom-style could seem so unforgiving that it could discourage you from dancing....

  3. I can dance salsa for an entire week without stopping.  You must try salsa.  It's exciting.  It will keep you on your toes. It's by far more interesting than ballroom dancing. If you can find the right partner, I bet you'll salsa until you drop not to mention the workout.

  4. Salsa!!

it helps keep your body more activated!

its helps alot if you start doing it alot.!

after a time you can be in good shape!

  5. The first question to ask yourself is: What music do I like?  There is no point in learning the Salsa if you don’t like Salsa music - the same with every other dance.  Each dance is connected to certain music genres.  If you like Swing and Big Band music then maybe you should learn Lindy Hop, if you like Disco music then you can choose Hustle or Samba, if you like Jazz then maybe choose Foxtrot, with R&B Rumba is a good choice.

If you go to a ballroom dance studio you can learn dances from the three main dance genres: Latin, Smooth and Swing.  If you go to a Salsa studio you will learn Street Latin dances like Bachata, Merengue and Zouk.  Ballroom dance and Street Latin have different technique and styling so another way to choose is by what dance you think looks best.  (Because you could be watching it for the next 50 years!)

My suggestion is to go ‘studio touring’.  Most places have introductory offers – this gives you a good chance to ‘test drive’ the teachers and dances at a discount price before making a decision.  Because each studio has its own ‘dance community’ you might want to check out some of their local dancing hubs too.  That will definitely give you a good idea of the quality of tuition from each place and what type of atmosphere the community has.

    Good luck!

  6. salsa is more fun ball room is boooorrrringggg

  7. If you start American-style ballroom, you'll learn mambo as part of the package, and that will let you dance with the salseras. Ballroom is not a dance but includes entire groups of dances.

A ballroom dancer can always dance salsa, without additional lessons. The reverse is not necessarily or even usually the case.

  8. Salsa can be more fun to a lot of people and you're more likely to be able to get out and dance it in public.  For instance, you'll be able to go out on a date to a club/bar/etc and have more of a chance to show off your moves since Latino music is played more often in public than Classical music.

But Ballroom is also really great, especially if you have a girl to dance along with.  It can be really romantic and a great date idea.  My boyfriend was the one who got me started on ballroom because one of our first dates was of him teaching me some steps out in a field under the stars.  Romantic!

It just depends on your preference.

  9. salsa keeps your blood pumping !

its better exercise and more funn.

    Goodluck.(:
