Samsung LCD tv?

Question

I just bought a Samsung LNT4060 40 in. and we just finished connecting it , and the picture quality is very poor.

What could be wrong?

We used the same cables that were connected to our old tube tv. Is that the problem? Do we have to buy certain types of cables?

No, When you buy those tvs you need to have HD TV and if you get that it will be better...

Whenever you upgrade from SD to HD you will want to not only upgrade your display, you will also want to upgrade your sources.

For cable you should get an HD cable box.  You will want to run either HDMI or DVI to HDMI cables depending on the output on your cable providers box.

For DVDs you should invest in either a blu-ray player or an upconvert DVD player.  Blu-ray is the only way to get a true 1080p image on your screen while the upconvert will increase the picture quality of a Standard DVD it comes no where near matching blu-ray.  These you will also want to run HDMI cables for.

I suspect they all miss the point.

If your HD pictures look good and the rest look fuzzy that is the "norm".  That's what happens with the digital pictures get "up-converted" by the HD portion of your tv.  Your screen is so sharp, these channels just don't look great.  I'd guess your HD pictures look fine.  I have regular component and the HD channels look very good, the rest, and sports shows are the worse, just look blah.

Yes it probably is.  You are no doubt using the yellow/red/white video/audio connection (composite) which is the poorest.

Yes, to get the best results even from non-HD sources.  If any of your sources (cable box, DVD player) has HDMI or component outputs, you should use those.

HDMI: single multi-pin rectangular connector.

Component:  5 cables, red/blue/green plus red/white.

I doubt if any of your sources provides 1080p (unless you have blu-ray DVD player).  1080p on your set refers to what the screen resolution is, not what comes in.

If the above conection types (HDMI or component)  are not available, use the s-video (small round 4-pin connector plus red/white).
