Question:

Samsung LN-T3242H HDTV picture settings...?

Hi all, I recently got a Samsung LN-T3242H LCD HDTV and I'm having a lot of trouble making the picture in its optimal settings so that the HD channels will LOOK like HD channels... I'm using Time Warner Cable, and using component cables connecting the cable box to my TV... When the picture moves around on TV (like a NBA basketball game) it seems like it's very chippy and sort of fuzzy...

Also, the only picture sizes I can choose are 16:9, zoom 1, zoom 2, or 4:3... I want to choose wide fit so it'll fill the whole TV screen instead of having 2 black lines (bars) on the top and bottom like I'm watching a movie or something... Does this mean I have to get a HDMI cable to connect to my cable box and my TV?

Please help me out guys!! THANKS!!

  1. First you want to have both your TV and your box set to 16:9 as this is the native ratio for both the programing and the TV set.

Second: If you are watching the program in HD it WILL fill out the screen for you. Keep in mind that A) you must subscribe to hd service and B) that the HD channels on your cable box will generally not be the same channel number as what you are used to so check to make sure your viewing it on the HD version of the channel.

Third. After doing the first two steps if you still lack a smooth picture, the problem is either your set or the over compression of the cable signal. On That specific model I myself have sometimes noticed a slight jitter although it is not  a constant issue.

    Best of luck!

  2. You need to set the Cable Box's ASPECT ratios correctly....

Your 4:3 setting is like set to 4:3 and it needs to be set to Stretch...without it set properly you'll always get the bars on a Low Def TV station....

And that's another reason why you get that "chippy, sort of fuzzy" look to it too....The TV signal is low def ---ANALOG -- and it "chipulates and fuzzifies" analog to digital conversions....

Now, MOST TVs do that....so what you want is you want ALL DIGITAL TV signals....

That will dechipulate and de-fuzzify your picture...

So when is TW going all-digital? Verizon just finished doing that this month so Comcast and TW should be telling you about their plans ohhhhhh  pretty soon I would say.....

Unless they don't LOVE their customers.....
