San Antonio or Ibiza Town??

I'm an Ibiza virgin but I am booking 2 weeks there this summer with the girlfriend and a group of 5 other couples. We are all around the 25yr old time so are past the 'drunken lout 18yr old stage', but still want to go out drinking and go to the clubs! i've been told San Antonio is full of drunks walking down the street singing 'England', I'm looking to stay where it is slightly more dignified but still with a good atmosphere. Ibiza town seems very expensive to stay... Any advice? Is what I have been told right?

  2. Hello Michael.

Ibiza is a lovely island and a great place for a holiday so well done for chosing it!

In July and August San Antonio is loud and yes, there will be inevitable drunken louts around.

Most of them tend to stay near the clubs and pubs in cheap 18-30 accomodation around the west end of the resort (ie within staggering distance of "home")

However, "The Bay" is it's affectionatley called is fine.

San Antonio Bay is round the bay from the noisy part but still well within a short distance to go clubbing etc.

The Bay attracts couples and families in high season and is much more suited to those wanting the nightlife without staying slap bang in the middle of it all.. as you say... more "dignified"

Its mainly 2 and 3 star accomodation, theres not much in the way of 4 star accomodation there, in fact I think there's Just The Bellamar and The Fiesta Palmyra at 4 star.

I'd reccomend The Fiesta Palmyra as being the nicest, but The Arenal Hotel is ok (3 star) or The Fiesta Milord.

The Hawai was renovated for last year I think and is air conditioned and I'm fairly sure The Bergantin is also recently renovated.

If it's apartments you're after I'd suggest either the Marina Palace or The Marvell- both have sea views and are ok.

Ibiza town is more expensive but very nice indeed. Most accomodation tends to be in the town and along towards a lovely sub-area called Talamanca

The Royal Plaza is a 4 star in the centre which is very nice and The Argos is on the beach also 4 star.

The El Puerto apts are in the town centre and a basic 2 star but just a few metres form the port.

The only thing I'd say is that Ibiza town does tend to attract a different clientelle to it's clubs than the San An scene. I do not wish to offend anyone and I am not being judgemental, but can I just say that it is said that if you're straight and may be easily offended, then perhaps Ibiza towns flamboyant g*y scene is not for you- thats all I'm going to say- it's up to you what you take from that.

That said, Ibiza town is still a great place to be, somehow it seems very "grown up" and the atmosphere there is terrific!

Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure you'll have a lovely holiday- Best of luck!
