The Bayer Leverkusen joint coach is looking forward to an improved performance next week from his team after their shock loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in the opening game.
Werkself gave away a one goal lead at half-time to lose the battle against Frankfurt at the Commerzbank-Arena on Saturday, August 25. The Factory Squad lost the game 2-1 courtesy goals from Stefan Aigner and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martin-Lanig-c24405 in the
second-half. The away side were leading at the interval after Stefan Kiessling found the net in the first-half.
Lewandowski, who is the joint coach along with former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 defender Sami Hyypia, claimed that the team was determined to perform from the start and were confident of a good beginning to the season. However, he admitted that
the loss has left the team disappointed.
The manager added that the team played poorly in the second-half and insisted that the side became complacent after scoring the first goal of the game.
“The lads had such high hopes and were desperate for a win. But we were overzealous. Over the 90 minutes, we lacked the necessary poise and calmness far too often. That was our biggest flaw,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Lewandowski added that the players failed to keep possession of the ball on many occasions and were also unsuccessful in creating chances at regular intervals. He is hopeful that the side makes an improved comeback in the next
game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/SC-Freiburg-c40462 at home and achieve all three points.
“We were too hasty in possession. We ran offside far too often when we should have been cleverer. Unfortunately, this overzealousness has cost us the points today,” he concluded.
