  1. I bought one for one of my nephews

It is a dependable and accurate gun

In the old days 22 came with these tiny little cheesy scopes

    They worked great

22 scopes don't take much of a beating so cheaper ones do well

  2. The Savage 64 is a good, reliable, bare bones .22 semi-automatic. Its reasonably accurate (and will probably shoot as good or better than you can). It will shoot any .22 LR ammo you feed it, though it may have one brand or type of bullet it likes better. (For some folks that means high velocity solids for other high velocity jacketed rounds. You'll just have to experiment and see which gives you the fewest stovepipes.) In short it will do everything you want it to do for around $150. You might check out the base model (Savage 64 F) instead of the 64 FV since it has iron sights while the 64FV does not. Its a preference though. If you're interested, here's the link.

I don't believe the Savage 64 comes with a scope, but the receiver is usually groved to accept a 3/8ths inch dovetail rimfire rifle scope (you should be able to find a 4x15 Tasco with a 3/8ths inch dovetail for around $10-15 at Walmart) which makes adding a scope very easy. The Savage 64 model you linked to is already tapped and comes with scope bases installed, so you should be able to add a higher quality scope easily enough, though you'll have to buy that separate.

You should be able to get a red dot sight for this gun. It might require a trip to a gunsmith to mount it though.

  3. No scope can pick one up for less than $50 dollars, doesn't jam if you keep it clean, savage is a good brand putting faith in it isn't a stupid decision

red dot scopes mount just like a regular scope if it has a scope mount, which it probally does. red dot are sometimes cheaper than regular scopes, have fun and be safe.
