Scabby Rat?

My pet rat has recently become scabby on her sides and a bit on her face too. My mam thinks it may be mange, and I was hoping to not have to take her to the vets as it costs quite a bit. Are there any cheap and reliable ways to get rid of mange other than expensive vetenary treatment? Please help.

I doubt it's mange, it's more likely mites or lice.
