I love riding! I am comfortable, I love it and I am pretty well around horses. I hate... i mean HATE hills!!! Tommorow I am going on a trail with BIG ,STEEP hills...

What should I do when I come to a hill, to make my horse walk, and me go down it nicely??? Any advice on staying calm when going down the hill??

Thanks!!!

  1. Just relax, when your going down the hill, horses can tell when your nervous and it can make them nervous or act up.  Lean back in the saddle and hold on with your legs closer to your horses shoulders.  You could be trying to hold on with your legs and accidently asking him to walk faster.  Other than that, "see-saw" your reins every now and then if he starts walking to fast to slow him down.  You could also ask someone your riding with to go in front of you, so your horse would have to go slow or otherwise run into the other horse.  Good luck and have fun!!
