Question:

School swimming on my period!?

by  |  earlier

I have swimming tomorrow, and my period started yesterday. I started my period like 2 and a half years ago. I know everyone will say use a tampon. But I've never used a tampon before. I have some at my house though. I need some advice, haha. And are there any good choices besides a tampon? I'm not going without a protection, even if it's been said that you don't bleed in the water. I usually have really heavy periods the first few days and really bad cramps, but the last days I don't feel anything. Also, I'm not skipping this class. My teacher won't be happy, 'cause she told no notes(everybody skips swimming basically) and besides I really want to go swimming. Thanks in advance.

  1. I think your teacher will understand that you cant go swimming.

  2. Im sry ... but im going to be brutally honest with you. Theres no other way girl....

    >Tampons

    >Skipping Class

    > Go without anything. <it works but only for a short time> <and it makes u self consious>

  3. Hmmm, well try one of the tampons I guess if your mother isn't against it. The box comes with instructions telling you how to put them in and how you'll know if you put it in right (you'll be able to feel it if you didn't I believe, I don't know I haven't worn one in a while lol.) and it tells you when t needs to be taken out and tells you about TSS...though I don't think you could wear pads in the water...they might fall apartplus I'm not sure they help much anyways...but yeah I guess I noticed I bleed alot LESS in water, but I still bled a little tiny bled. So your only option here dear is to try a tampon.

    Good luck :)

  4. Hun, get yourself a menstrual cup.

Trust me here, I used tampons for years because I did not know I had any other choice and I ended up avoiding swimming all together as I had a few embarrassing situations from leaking while wearing them to the pool. I switched to using a menstrual cup a few years ago and they are MUCH BETTER than tampons, I now go swimming again and have never ever leaked while using my cup, they are much more comfortable than tampons plus like 100% safer! People only say tampons are good when they don’t know any better!

  5. if your period is light the day of your swimming class try some sponge that your mom doesnt care about anymoore or 2 pads on top of each other

  6. A tampon would be your best choice because you don't want to accidentally bleed in the water and embarrass yourself. That is really the only choice and it's comfortable so you won't even feel it.

  7. period's shade be capt to your self!, can't you think of any thing Al's to tock about?.

  8. omg when i first got my period, we were on vacation and we swam every day.... tampons are soooo much easier than u think... if u can feel it in u after u put it in... its in wrong. okay im just a beginner and i still have to see where the right place to put it is in the mirror... gross i know. once i find it, i hold it there, and sit on the toilet with the tampon between my legs. hopefully the instructions are in the box at your house... ppl say u will "pop your cherry" but u wont trust me... dont let them scare u. all i can say is take some deep breaths, and every time u get stuck, take another deep breath.. make sure to put it in all the way too!!!!!!!  and when u pull it back out, just make sure to relax then too. also:: plastic applicators work wonders but i was stuck with cardboard the first time so they work too. OMGGG i almost forgot! use a regular size, cause you said you have a heavy flow but seriously if u tried super or ultra, they are GIGANTIC! dont try them, seriously they are massive lol once you are better with tampons maybye you can try them but im still scared of them. once i started with tampons, i never went back to pads, just at night!

  9. Try the tampons out tonight and see if you are comfortable with them..If not, avoid swimming. Get permission for your parents or teacher.

  10. To be honest I don't go swimming, I cannot swim, but I can tell you right now that tampons aren’t as good as people say, I can guarantee you that every person here who said tampons would be changing their tune if they understood how disgusting and dangerous tampons are. Blood and tissue rotting inside your body with all sorts of chemicals and bacteria inside the tampon and no way for your v****a to clean it all out – GROSS! Give Instead’s a go, they are a type of cup so they are safe and can be worn for a long time even with a heavy period, you can get these at most stores now and are much better than tampons

  11. To be honest anything is better than tampons because tampons are unsafe and unhygienic – they prevent normal vaginal cleaning, absorb vital vaginal fluids, give bacteria the perfect place to multiply, leave fibres in the vaginal walls and contain synthetics, chemicals and bleaches – thus tampons are linked to vaginal infections, TSS, cancer, endometriosis and menstrual problems. See Tampon health web site for more information – http://www.spotsite.org

I would highly recommend menstrual cups to anyone wanting to use internal menstrual options as these can be worn safely for up to 12 hours at a time without leaking (menstrual cups are perfect for heavy-flow as they hold more than tampons or pads!). They can be worn before your period, from light to heavy days, at night and for sports like swimming. These are totally safe as they allow your v****a to carry on as it would normally, thus they have never been linked to any sort of health problem. Menstrual cups are safer, cleaner, greener, cheaper, more comfortable and more convenient than tampons, they also have the advantage of not leaking, you don’t need to worry about changing, and you don’t need to worry about level of absorbency. As a note, most menstrual cup brands offer a money back guarantee so that you can try them for a few months and if they are not for you then the company will give you all of your money back!

Most women recommend Divacup http://www.divacup.com as the better known menstrual cup brand, however if you are new to internal menstrual options Ladycup http://www.ladycup.com may be better as they are smaller and softer, or Miacup http://www.miacup.co.za

Menstrual cups are better for swimming than tampons because tampons have to be changed every few hours, particularly while swimming as they absorb pool water (which also adds to bloating), as tampons cause increased menstrual cramps this can be a problem while swimming – you do mention cramping as a problem, be aware tampons do cause cramping due to their negative affect on vaginal health, irritation of vaginal walls and expansion into the cervix. Menstrual cups also have nothing showing on the outside of your body.

Another similar option is softcups, these work on the same idea as menstrual cups so have similar advantages such as being able to wear them safely without leaking for up to 12 hours at a time regardless of how heavy or light you are – another advantage is that they can be worn during penetrative s*x, whether you will find that useful or not I don’t know. It’s hit or miss as to whether a girl/woman will like these, they are a ‘one-size-fits-all’ sort of thing which doesn’t really work as we aren’t all the same size so some girls/women experience leaking or discomfort, but a lot of women prefer them because they are disposable, or try these first before switching to menstrual cups as they are easier to find in stores. Softcups are disposable but they are still better for the environment and cheaper than tampons because their manufacturing isn’t as harmful to the environment and they can be reused.

You can try other options too, organic tampons, sponge tampons or soft tampons, all work the exact same way as commercial tampons (like Tampax, etc.) however they are safer as they are not made from synthetics and do not contain chemicals or bleach. Organic tampons are just the same size and shape as commercial tampons, where as sponge tampons are basically just medical sponges, soft tampons are more of a button-shape. Personally I recommend Cottons organic tampons, these can be bought from most stores that sell tampons.

You could try different pads, obviously commercial pads or organic pads are no good for swimming as they will just go soggy and come unstuck, however cloth pads or homemade pads would be fine as long as you could wear shorts over the top. I would personally recommend either padded panties which are pads built into underwear, or period belts which are long pads that attach to your waste, these fit closer to your body so would give you more protection – still wear shorts over the top and avoid swimming on a heavy day. See Lunapads for cloth pads, padded panties and other menstrual options like cups and sponges – http://www.lunapads.com

Seriously, speaking not just from personal experience but also medical knowledge, tampons are not safe or clean and they are really inconvenient to use, there are much better options available and for swimming in particular tampons are not the best option around. I beg young women like yourself to learn about how your v****a works and then how tampons work, I have yet to meet a well-educated woman who is still willing to risk her health by using tampons.

  12. either where a spandex suit or a tampon because it known that you dont bleed in the water but you will be fine if you just go without the tampon and where a really tight swim suit but dont worry you will be ok just remember to change it once you get out and the tampon will not take any water so just stay clam and ask your mom what to do if you are to embarrassed then just take a tampon if you find one and read the instructions and try to put it in and if you cant then just look online and they will probley show you how to do it and remember just stay clam and if you feel it in the wrong spot take it out and get a new one and try again if you still fell it try again it took me 4 tries to get it in but i was really nervous so just stay clam and remember you dont have to wear it.btw i am 25 and 11 yrs with my period so stay clam.hope i helped.
