ok, so this year, we are like, forced to do a science fair project, and i want to do mne on whether or not the shape and mass of an object afffects its velocity when falling through water. does anybody kno if htey do affect it or not?

  2. it does affect. conducting the experiment is easy. measure the speed of two different objects with different masses or shapes.

  3. Do some experiments and find out. That's kinda the point of the science fair. You'll get graded and judged on how well you follow the steps of the scientific method.

    EDIT: Make a prediction as to whether you think it does or not. Then get yourself a tall, clear glass vase--like one of those giant ones they sell at Ikea. Round up a bunch of objects--I'd suggest spheres, cubes, and flat panels--and solid because hollow ones will probably float. Get a stopwatch and then time how long it takes for each to fall from top to bottom. Document your findings in a chart that shows mass/density versus falling time. State whether your findings agree with your prediction. Voila--science project! Extra points for making it look nice on the board.

  4. They do but your null hypothesis should be that there is no difference among objects. I suggest keeping the mass and the shape experiments separate to make analysis easier.
