I need to do an experiment for a science fair and I need some commentary and suggestions. I want to something with full grown store bought roses like experimenting with different foods that would make them last longer or bloom better. I just need to do something like that using the scientific method. So I need a hypothesis and data etc. Please help?

I am thinking roses and just someway to do an experiment with them.

  1. I think you should measure the effects of mixing various household cleaners and how they will work together.

  2. Okay, seriously don't listen to the guy who said to mix household cleaners, because that can be pretty dangerous depending on what you mix.  Anyway...

I would suggest to get a few (5, maybe) different kinds of flower foods and a bunch of roses.  Divide the roses up into groups.  Give each group a different type of food, and give one group no food.  The group with no food is your control group.  Change the water each day, and give them food each day.  Record how long the roses last in each group.  Your hypothesis might be that the roses with the food will last longer than the control group, and you'll find out if that's true or not.  You'll also find out which food makes them last the longest.  You can make graphs and have some pictures of the roses at different points throughout the experiment.  Good luck and have fun!
