    1. First you need to know what the scientific theory is.  

    a) You make an observation

    b) You make an assumption about that observaion

    c) You test your assumption

    d) You see if your assumption is right or wrong

    ...so What did Darwin do as he was traveling to those islands?  Was he observing differences in animals on each island?  Was he making assumptions about them?  Did he test his assumptions?

    2. For this one you must know what photosynthesis is.  In simple terms it is how plants convert light energy into chemical energy.  Chemical energy in the form of plant starches provides energy for all herbivores in the food chain.   Now you can make your assumptions off of this information to answer your question.
