maybe it means the scoreboard is messed up cause i mean look at the scores

Pitcher uniform numbers. Scorecards sold at ballparks typically have, somewhere, complete team pitching staffs listed with uni numbers so fans can follow the out-of-town scoreboards and know who's on the mound.

Before the game begins -- scheduled starting pitchers.

During the game -- current pitchers.

After the game -- winning and losing pitchers.

Neat touch, isn't it? I love baseball, so many details.

I think it is the number of the starting pitcher, but I'm not sure. If so, its an old photo: 38 for the Red Sox is Curt Schilling, so its not this year!
