Question:

Scottish dish detergent vs. American?

So, this may sound crazy, but when I was in Scotland, a friend said you didn't have to rinse the dishes with the dish detergent they use (which was not specially formulated or anything). On several occasions I saw her put this into practice, and I never got sick after using the dishes later. However, here in the states, I always grew up hearing that if soap is left on dishes, it will make you sick. So, does anyone know anything about any of this?

  1. IDK i have never gotten sick when soap was left on the dishes but it was only a little but. maybe they dont get sick because they are used to it

  2. I don't think it would make you sick but I do not think it would taste very good to leave soap residue on the dishes.

  3. It is a national thing.  Here in UK most people do not rinse dishes they have hand washed.  The difference being that most people dry their dishes with a clean dish towel so therefore any soap is wiped off.  We are still alive and well in the UK despite this practice!  Anyway, almost everybody has a dishwasher now.  The manufacturers would not dare to put anything poisonous in dish wash liquid (would they??).

  4. I think people especially those who live in other countries have different ways of doing things then we do.When I was little we had a double sink and my mother would fill up one sink with soap and water and the other with plain water she would wash the dish dip it in the sink with the plain water and put it on the rack to dry and I would go to friends houses and their mothers would scrub and rinse for at least  a few seconds.I guess it just depends on how you decide to do things
