  1. If you are going to let him scream only to then bring him into your bed that isnt going to teach him sleep on his own. How about sitting with him for a while and when he's calm leave his room telling him its sleep time. If he gets upset give him a minute or two then go back and sit with him for a bit longer. You might have to do this for hours until he does eventually fall asleep. It will get easier as the days and weeks go by. But you need to keep doing it or something similar until he goes to sleep. Dont give in and bring him into your bed, thats teaching him he gets rewarded if he kicks up a fuss. Best not to let littlies cry it out as some of them get really scared being by themselves and then will be even harder to get to sleep in thier own bed.

  2. This is so difficult for you because you aren't getting enough quality sleep.

Probably a good thing to try would be to go into the child's (dark) room and let him know you are there (he may have had a nightmare). Pick him up if he doesn't settle and just hold him until you feel him settle then lay him in his cot and quietly leave the room. If he continues crying use the control crying method, where you go back in every 5 minutes stretching out longer each time and without eye contact quietly say 'Sleep time now'. I was surprised that with persistence this works very well. I was so run down with my 3rd child that I would bring her into my bed each night right up until she was 4. After I got her out of it I finally got good sleep. Having a young child in your bed isn't good for your sleep. If you can try this method suggested when you know you don't have to be up early for anything in particular the next day you should be more relaxed so have success.

This has worked well for my 2 year old who for the last couple of months has had the occasional night terror where it can take a good 10 minutes before I feel her relax in my arms and am able to put her back to bed.

    Good luck!
