Question:

Screen capture (Advanced!)?

So, I'm trying to do a screen capture.

Wait, don't reply yet!

The program I'm running is an old-school program (possibly an old DOS based game, possibly something that's an emulator for an old system-- it won't actually tell me, it's just an .exe file). And it is apparently communicating on a lower level than the OS in order to draw the screen.

My first attempt was with the normal "Print Screen" button, but that did nothing-- it actually didn't capture anything at all on the clipboard.

Then I tried downloading a couple free screen capture programs. They each give me the same result-- a black screen with a mouse pointer, which is NOT what was being displayed at the time of capture.

Does anyone know of a screen capture program that can handle something like this? Something that probably communicates with the video card device drivers rather than the OS (I'm assuming that's the issue)?

  1. Not sure if you'll be able to do a screen print while running a program in a DOS window.
