how do you refill a tank? how long does a 6 cu. ft. tank last underwater?

You don't refill it yourself. Go to a Dive Shop that you trust and get your tank refilled for a minimal cost (usually around 5-6 bucks). They will ask for your C-card, so bring that with you, too.

How long it lasts? Depends on how deep you're going.

By the way, if you're not certified, I'd strongly suggest getting certified before you dive without the company of an instructor.
