Genoa management have gone underground and have cut off all contact with the media, but rumours are afloat about a possible return of Gigi De Canio
Luigi Delneri, the current manager of the Marassi side, has been with the team since October 2012. Since that time the team has lost seven out of their eight encounters in the Serie A, the most recent one being the
loss against Pescara with a 2-0 score line.
Delneri was previously the manager at Juventus where he was suffering from an almost identical string of defeats. He was fired before the end of the season at the complaints of the fans and the squad alike.
The Grifone are one place shy of being at the bottom of the leader boards and have progressively gone from bad to worse. This created a bit of a ruckus amongst the team and the management.
The words were exchanged after the Pescara failure and sources say that things sounded really heated in the dressing room. Since then the higher ups have instructed anyone from within the club not to talk to the press.
The debate was over a group of player’s within the team who thought that Del Niri was doing a hopeless http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 and that the former tactician De Canio should be restored. This restoration would be unusual since the old trainer was let
go only 2 months before.
The former Genoa head coach had only been rehired by the club in a desperate attempt to save the club from relegation. But seeing the outfit’s poor run of form continue he was fired a second time. If he is to return to Genoa it
will be his third time representing the team in the Serie A.
Another option as the current manager’s replacement could be former Fiorentina coach Delio Rossi. However, the club owners must keep in mind the incident that occurred last season when the former Fiorentina supervisor lost his
temper and assaulted his own striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adem-Ljajic-c3612.
The incident occurred when he substituted the Serbian attacker which the Serb didn’t take kindly and applauded the coach sarcastically from the bench, at which point the manager lost it and lashed out at the player.
Genoa should have been at the bottom of the table if it had not been for the 6 point penalty against Siena, but the Grifone are headed for relegation all the same.
