Question:

Sea Shells from Beach and Tank?

I collected some sea shells from SC to put in my 55 gallon salt water aquarium, which is fully cycled. Is it ok to place them in my tank? I thought maybe the minerals/calcium from them would be good for the tank.

  1. Yah its actualy really good for the fish and tank, you may want to wash them a abit b4 but other than that go for it

  2. i would boil them

  3. the fish will LOVE the shells it actually helps them and it is awsome

  4. Soak them in hot water for about five min and they will get sterilized just to be safe but not to much longer so you can keep the minerals--good idea tho

  5. You can add them but make sure you rinse them off pretty well before putting them in your tank.  Run it under some really hot water for a while to kill anything that might be hiding on them or boil them for a bit.
