Search Problem

Question

I need help! A while ago I blocked a friend on facebook then I removed them from my block list but now they just do not exist in the realm of the facebook world. When i see them appear on friends pages they have a grey photo and black writing. I am not blocked on their account and no one as any specific privacy settings. How do I find this person in search and add them back as a friend?
