Question:

Second cable modem optimum online?

I have optimum online. I want to buy a second cable modem and put it downstairs. The first modem upstairs has a router, but I want to have a direct connection downstairs, and i dont want to connect wired or wirelessly unless directly from the modem. If I buy the second modem, do I have to pay a fee? And do I have to call and register it? If I do neither, will it work, or will it not connect?

  1. If you put in a second modem and not pay a second subscribe fee it will not work.  The ISP managers are way ahead of you on this.

  2. You would have to have a second account. Depending on the cable company, that may or may not be possible. For certain, you cannot have 2 modems on one account

  3. Yes you will pay for the second Modem and it will not be a reduced price, when you get the second modem, they will need the MAC address to register it on the network, until it has been registered it will not work.

so your internet now costs twice what you now pay(now you know why people use routers)

Another option is to find a central location in your house use a hub($12.00) Not a router!($50.00) and run a cable to each then contact your ISP and double your internet speed (costs less than 2 modems usually)

    Hope this helps Good Luck
