Question:

Self conscious in skinny jeans?

I'm 14 and 5'2. I fit into a size 3 in regular jeans and a 5 in skinnies. Most girls my age are around a size 3 in skinnies so I feel really self conscious about my legs when I walk out the door.

I also have wide hips so I usually cover it with large shirts. I'm more of the tomboyish type and tops like tunics don't really appeal to me but I like to show off new belts that are usually hidden underneath my shirt.

What other tops can I wear? How can I show off a belt? or should I just stay away from the skinnies?

  1. wear them with confidence and that will make you look great!

maybe try a oversized shirt with a nice belt either at the waist or around the hips. maybe an oversized or long line cardigan.

but if you dont feel comfortable just wear some baggy jeans as they are really on trend too! skinnies are actually on their way out!

    hope i helped x

  2. Don't wear skinnies then! Wear bootcut or straight legs then you won't worry about your hips!

  3. First rule of Fashion:  You only feel as good as you look.  So always look good.

If you are self-conscious in skinny jeans, why wear them?  Honestly, unless you are a Victoria Secret model, skinny jeans don't look good.  They hug you in all the wrong places.  They emphasize your hips, make your butt look flat, and sometimes make your calves look HUGE.  Not flattering at all.  If you want to do 'skinny' I would try to find some straight leg jeans.  They should go straight down from the widest part of your hip.  This cut is the most flattering for all body types, but people still like the flare and skinny look.  When your pants go straight down from (the widest part of!) your hips, it will create the illusion that your hips are much smaller than they are.  Also, you want tops that will stop around the same place, again, where your hips are widest.  Which, sadly, means no belt.  When your shirt covers your entire hip region, it cuts off your leg line making your legs look short and stumpy.

  4. don't focus on other girls your age. a size 5 is fine. you should be proud of your hips and curves. i had "athletic" hips until i was 15 and even now, they're pretty small. i bet half of those girls wish they had hips like yours! anyways, the key is to not compare yourself to other people. don't be self-conscious, you need confidence to look good. everyone's body is different and you shouldn't judge your's by what other people look like!

about the tops, maybe you should wear a jersey style shirt or one of your regular shirts but wear a belt on top. you could even belt it at the waist to create an hourglass shape.

about staying away from skinnies, only do it if you think you don't look good. if it's just about other girls your age and feeling self conscious compared to them, then you should look and see if you actually look good. follow the trends you like, bootcut may be a better style for you. a fashion mistake that a lot of people make is buying a trend that doesn't flatter them.

in conclusion, don't compare yourself to other people! you're not the same. and you have to be confident, because it's not the jeans...it's how you wear them.

  5. wear what ever suits you the best
