  1. It's not a bad idea if you do.

If you don't show the reserve on the listing, you're likely to get bidders bidding up your auction then withdrawing their bids - they do this to find out what the reserve is.

They shouldn't do it, but they will.

Others will just pass by your auction because they have no idea if the item will fall within their budget and so go and find a car where they can see what's what.

It's up to you though.  Some like to keep the reserve to themself but the reserve is no real secret.  It's sole purpose is to stop your item being sold too cheaply.

  2. No in the past eBay have cancelled listings that have had reserves in the listing as a "breach of their rules" seems everthing breaks their rules nowadays. Best advice is to give as much info on the car that you can service history dates, work carried out, indepth details on condition of interior and rips tears etc and exterior dents scratches etc and answer any questions people put to you and make them visible when you reply so other people can see the questions and answers so not to hassle you with the same thing. People may ask you the reserve and get back to them privately and let them know ie dont make it an answer everyone can see on the listing page. Basically if you give enough info on the car and someone wants to buy it then they will.

  3. Keep your reserve confidential. You should make your auction start near to your reserve. Why not quote the " Book price" of the car (if your reserve is lower), or just comment that the reserve is set at a sensible level ( if that is the case). E bay is an auction, the only way to get good money is to set the reserve near to what you want, all the fine words and sales pitch can only have a limited effect.

  4. Well the reserve price means that that is the lowest you will sell for. If you wanted to tell the customer u should have selected the "BUY IT NOW" option. I suggest u cancel it and post it again (if you can do that.) If you can't then tell everybody the price u are willing to sell at.

  5. yes or you will get some angry bidders

  6. no thats very bad.

  7. The buyers might bid higher than the price you want to sell it for, and that would be good for you.  So let people bid their own price without knowledge of the base price.

  8. No, don't do that.  I sold my car on eBay and had trouble getting what I wanted for it.  I relisted it and stated the reserve, the same as before, and people STILL wouldn't bit on it.  If you state the reserve, and it's too high, nobody will bid on it.

If you leave the reserve there, but don't tell what it is, someone will be sitting at their computer saying "just a little more, I can afford just a little more to meet the reserve" and that's more or less the point of having it in the first place.
