Separation anxiety? ?

I've been back to work for 3 weeks now. My son just turned four months old.

He SCREAMS for hours when his dad watches him while I'm gone. I came home from work last night, and my husband showed me a video of the way my son behaved. He screamed for six hours- the kind of scream that makes him lose his breath! When I came home, the baby giggled at me and was fine.

Anyone else have the same thing happen with their baby? When should he get used to me gone? I dread going to work knowing both my husband and my baby will be stressed out my entire shift!!

  1. awww. when my son was that age he cried so hard that he'd lose his breath, all the time. it's scary. but he got over it as he got older and was able to communicate better.

i know that's not your question but..

as for the seperation anxiety...you just have to work through it. it's going to be hard and frustrating but there's no other solution.

soon he will get used to his dad and he will cry when his dad's not around!!

  2. I went back to work when my daughter was almost 3 months.  She screamed and cried for hours with her dad.  He called one night and said I had to come home something was wrong.  As soon as I walked in she laughed and was happy.  It took about 6 weeks for my daughter.  If hubby is stressed the baby can tell, so he should really try to stay calm, even though it seems impossible.  He could try wrapping your son in one of your shirts so he can smell you.  Sometimes it helps.  Good Luck and hang in there.

  3. my daughter would do this sometimes when her dad or yaya watched her, and what i did to help the anxiety was during the day when both me and dad were home, i would kiss her and say bye, but go in are room for a few minutes, i would let her cry for a few minutes and then come back out or i would walk into another room but talk really loudly so even though she couldn't see me she could hear me, after a couple days she was fine. sometimes if she is upset while i am gone dad will call me and ill talk to her on t he phone and this also seems to help.
