Setting Problems?

Well I am the newbie to a team, and I really don't want to let my team down! I am a setter and I need to know how to set correctly. I know you need to have stiff fingers, but I never do it for some reason! Its just a of the moment thing. HELP

Im a starting setter for my team (i play position three, thats how we do the numbers). You should a diamond shape with your thumbs and index fingers. Bring your hands very close to touching BUT not touching.

Try standing about 2 feet away from a wall and set the volleyball to it over and over again. It really helps!

it's hard when you first start, starters can't really hit the ball straight up like me i started playing last year and it's hard to hit the ball straight up, when you set it to someone it could be someone in front of you or behind you

Well im a setter do I will try and help the best i can. first of all, your fingers arent suppsed to be "stiff" they are supposed to be flimsy, but again, not stiff. you should have them out like a claw a little. and when you set, push it out and use your legs... like superman! it will take time to get better so keep trying. and before you set, set yourself up, sqaure to the net. dont try to set in the middle of yourself running or jumping. i hope i helped and good luck!

i am a setter too...................you have everything ryt but you have to make sure that your thumb isnt popping out and dont push your hands use yours knees

Hey im not a setter but i know alot about every positon so.....work on setting with a ball every chace you get!!!! "square up" when setting the ball to your hitters and if your a righty move to the ball R L then make a triangle with your hands right above your forehead, then push teh ball up and out!!!! but the most important thing is to make sure you square up to you hitters and square your body!! also keep wide fingers!!!! but practice setting and that will eventually give you stiff fingers good enough to sett a great ball!!!! when you set don't have stiff fingers.  For a visual:

put your hands on your hips.  Keeping the shape of your hands bring them off your hips and up to above your forehead.  When you set think "koosh...push"

Your fingers should be soft. Never EVER let the ball touch your palm (a lift). Set the ball around forehead area and not at your chin (if you can, look in a mirror). Imagine you're looking up and your hands are in a position as if you are drinking a two-liter, and you're spilling it onto your forehead. Square up to the ball in the direction where you want it to go, keep your knees soft and bent before you set, have one leg in front of the other, and push. Push in an upward direction or out, depending on where you want it to go. Keep your eye on the ball. Most importantly, practise!

Imagine your hands as a trampoline, with your wrists doing most of it. When the ball contacts your hands, you give in. Then you push back out like a trampoline. Also, once you can set yourself really well, look up and you should notice your hands forming a triangle shape where you contact the ball. It doesn't have to be a perfect triangle. Really try to snap your wrists fast to get maximum push on the ball. Don't let it hit your palms. Don't spread your hands after you set it, and always follow through where your aiming, it helps.

Hey I am a setter! and what i normally do is set all of the time I can get! I always keep my fingers pretty wide and just barely touch the ball. Make sure to bend your knees and put your hands above your eyebrows. Make sure your palm does'nt touch ball. and just RELAX. relaxed fingers is better to set with because then your not so tight. Also square up to the ball and make sure you know where you are setting before you set!!!!!!
