I have an under tank heater and well the thermostat was waaaay to expensive so I bought a timer for it and I was wondering if I could use that? If so then what hours should I set for the Under Tank Heater to come on and off?

Thank you :)

  1. The under tank heater can stay on all the time.  Place it under one side of the cage and put a thermometer over it.  They can get too hot sometimes and you can adjust them by using a lamp dimmer from the hardware store.  There are models that look like a short extension cord with an adjustable switch and only cost a few bucks.  You can then achieve the proper temps and it is much cheaper than a thermostat.

  2. keep it on all the time and make sure tank is large enough for the snake to have a cool spot when needed

  3. actually, you should just leave it on all the time. if you have an overhead heat lamp, then leave the under tank heater on all the time

  4. under tank heaters should be on all the time every second of the day. there do not dry out reptiles or amphibians like uv bulbs.
