Setting up speakers to computer?

so, i have a stereo system that i never use, and i wanna set it up to my computer..it comes with the little speaker whys that you lock into the back of the stereo..is it possible to make it work through my computer? and if so, can you tell me step-by-step directions how to

  1. You can just connect the wires.


  2. If you are doing what I did there should be no problem. Set up the stereo like you would normally set one up. Then, get a connector with a pair of RCA type plugs at one end and a 1/8th stereo plug at the other. The RCA  plugs can go in any input EXCEPT phono. The 1/8th plugs into the computers audio out. BUT, A WORD OF WARNING! Sometimes, when you make such a hook up, you may experience a loud hum. IF that happens, your going to have to put a ground loop isolater in that connection circuit. You can get them at Radio Shack. This is what happenned to me. Once that was installed, the hum was GREATLY reduced and I was good to go.
