A very disturbing story has just surfaced about two French footballers who allegedly paid an underage ‘escort girl’ for sexual favours. The detail of this sordid affair is beginning to come to the forefront. Experts say that one of the worst parts about this whole affair is the lack of ethics shown by the French football manager. Although the paid s*x with an underage prostitute is the worst part, however, the disregard for ethical consideration is bad too.
The two French footballers Franck Ribery and Karim Benzema allegedly paid for s*x with an underage prostitute who was only 17 at the time. It turns out that this ‘escort girl’ as she likes to call herself, had her ‘services’ frequently availed by many people in the French football team. One would ask, what is going on in the world of football? How can this kind of behaviour be allowed or approved? It is true that footballers are famous people with a celebrity tag on their sides, but it seems like with these allegations they somehow have lost their character as well. This culture of having s*x with prostitutes is a deplorable one in light of the fact that footballers are supposed to be national heroes and role models that young children revere. By doing things like this, they are just showing those doe-eyed kids that it is perfectly fine to partake in illegal things and have s*x with underage prostitutes.
The BBC sports website ran this story and it immediately caught my attention. The website states, “This week the public has been lapping up more salacious details about how a blonde Algerian-born teenager called Zahia Dehar worked as a 2,000-euros-a-night (£1,740) courtesan to some of the biggest names in French football. In an interview with Paris-Match, Ms Dehar described how she was flown to Munich in April last year on Mr Ribery's 26th birthday. The Frenchman currently plays for Bayern-Munich. The problem is that at the time Ms Dehar was 17 years old. Under French law, paid s*x with someone under the age of 18 is regarded as s*x with a minor - and punishable by three years in jail and a fine of 45,000 euros,”
This whole affair is not tolerable by any normal person’s standards. Nevertheless, the saddest part about it is that the French national team manager was very relieved to find out that the investigation has been put on hold until after the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. It shows that ethics and responsibility towards the society have been thrown out of the window in modern football. How can the manager of the team feel relieved about this? Football managers believe that he should have been suspended both the players from the team, with their salaries deducted and sent back home to think about what they had done or alleged to have done. The other aspect of this case is the fact that how did the investigation stop? Someone with some seriously powerful connections must have pulled some strings through which the two dodgy players can now play for the national side again. Also mentioned in the BBC article is the fact that someone in the French football team management must have known the ‘escort girl’s’ age because an airplane ticket was bought for her as well.
The football world needs to do something soon to curb this culture of a party lifestyle, which has become common with many football players around the world. We can all hope that Ribery and Benzema learn their lessons; serve some time in jail and receive a huge fine – this will certainly help to change the society for the better.
