She does have a great attitude. Always smiling even with all the f-ed up s-ht that went down in the gymnastics in these games.

On the other end of the spectrum, Nastia was intensely focused. You knew she was gonna win the all-around when you saw that look on her face after the uneven bars. That's was the look of sheer determination.

to maskddin, America's "old" sweetheart would be the 1984 all-around gold champ, Mary Lou Retton, I'm surprised you haven't heard of her.  to answer the question now, Shawn is a great gymnast, but remember Liukin won the all-around, I would think she would take priority....but I see where you're coming from, Shawn has that pixie like appearance that Mary Lou does.

yeah, she seems like a really good role model for young kids, hopefully young girls will start following her lead rather than miley cyrus's lol she seems so nice, and talented. i think she represents our country really well.

Yes, she is 100 times better cuter!  She is not a score loser, but Nastia IS. Nastia always has that pissed-off look when other gymnasts got a better score than her, even her own teammate Shawn!

I am so happy for Shawn to get her gold medal!

Shawn has gotten a lot of attention here and well deserved. Who knows if it's a ground swell, or a few fans creating the extra interest. I agree with most of the comments here though, and agree she seems to be a great role model. In particular she showed exceptional graciousness towards the other competitors, something we need to demonstrate to the world so our more nationalistic hooligans don't take over our world image.

Nastia is the more beautiful and classically tall and thin (and more medalled) of the two, but that's not particularly what we need for our girls. Shawn has undeniable heart and goodness, traits we need to emphasize over all the bad girl images out there today. I love her smile, and the fact that she seemed just a little self conscious about her teeth.

Loved those peace sign ear rings she wore at her interview with Bob Costas!
